Integrated Pest & Disease Management (IPDM)
Learn systematic approaches to identify, prevent and manage crop pests and diseases. Study pest and disease identification, monitoring, cultural practices, biological control, integrated management and crop protection planning. Build practical knowledge applicable across agriculture, horticulture, nurseries, protected cultivation and crop-management operations.
This is skill training. It is not a pesticide licence.
Level 03 – AIA. Agricultural Industry Advanced Certification Courses. Advanced Industry Skills for Agriculture & Horticulture Students.
Over two months you learn to recognize common pests and diseases, monitor crops systematically, and combine cultural and biological practices into a practical protection plan. Training emphasizes scouting records and prevention; it does not teach product mixing rates, application doses, or ways to bypass legal requirements.
Module 1: IPM Principles & Crop Protection Planning
- Integrated pest and disease management as a decision framework
- Set action thresholds based on crop stage and market tolerance
- Plan prevention before intervention across the crop cycle
- Keep field records that support season review and audits
Module 2: Pest & Disease Identification
- Recognize common insect, mite, and nematode damage patterns
- Distinguish fungal, bacterial, and viral symptoms on leaves and fruit
- Use hand lenses, traps, and reference material for confirmation
- Avoid treating symptoms without correct identification
Module 3: Field Monitoring & Scouting
- Design weekly scouting routes for fields, nurseries, or polyhouses
- Sample plants systematically and note pest counts or incidence
- Use sticky traps and pheromone traps where appropriate
- Log weather and crop stage alongside scouting data
Module 4: Cultural & Sanitation Practices
- Crop rotation, resistant varieties, and planting dates to reduce pressure
- Sanitation: remove infected debris, weed hosts, and cull plants
- Manage irrigation and canopy airflow to limit disease favouring conditions
- Quarantine and hygiene for nursery and protected-culture units
Module 5: Biological & Non-Chemical Options
- Introduce and conserve natural enemies where feasible
- Use permitted biopesticides and botanical options with label awareness
- Combine mechanical and physical controls with monitoring data
- Evaluate when non-chemical tactics alone are sufficient
Module 6: Decision-Making, Compliance & Records
- Choose interventions in order: prevention, monitoring, then targeted action
- Understand that licensed applicators and statutory rules govern pesticide use
- Document treatments, re-entry intervals, and harvest gaps as required on labels
- Plan seasonal IPM calendars for key crops or nursery batches
Who This Is For
Minimum 12th pass or equivalent. Suitable for agriculture and horticulture students, farm and nursery supervisors, polyhouse operators, and crop managers who need structured identification, monitoring, and cultural-and-biological IPM skills—not statutory pesticide licensing.
Outcomes
On completion, you should be able to:
- Identify common pests and diseases and confirm before acting
- Run regular scouting and maintain usable monitoring records
- Apply cultural and biological practices to reduce infestation pressure
- Build seasonal IPM plans aligned with crop stage and site conditions
- Work within legal and label requirements when chemical control is delegated to licensed staff
